Up until about 2 1/2 months ago I would not have been able to explain. However, that has changed. It is a week of guitar classes provided at Warren Wilson College, in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Swannanoa Gathering is a yearly event that from what I learned is something that attendees schedule every year as part of their yearly rejuvenation. I am looking forward to this experience and am currently practicing my recently purchased guitar, so that I can contribute to the jam sessions that occupy downtime between classes. Thus far, this upcoming week at the end of July has provided the catalyst to hopefully keep me at practicing to finally learn the guitar – something that I have wanted to do since childhood.

It will be interesting to read how much your tone changes AFTER the Gathering; as a 2-year veteran myself; I can tell you that you are significantl;y underplaying the cathartic effect of the place. It is a fountain of joy, and I’m very excited that you’re going to experience it!!!
I also hope that your newfound interest in guitar will spur your son’s creativity on the instrument as well!

I’ve never done any “retreat” type activities, but I’ll bet they’re great! I have a lovely Alvarez acoustic gathering dust in my spare bedroom. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to actually learn how to play something on it; however, due to various circumstances (mostly an online course I’m taking), a lot of my time is not my own. At least not til after mid-May.

You owe it to yourself to do somethyign like this soon in your life. It will really sort out your head; I use it as my mental re-org week…
